This looks like the world’s first consumer drone.
Other UAVs are unmanned, but still must be piloted. The LA100 is fully autonomous. After launch it flies in a predetermined pattern at an altitude of about 300 feet for five minutes and then returns. It’s built to work with the popular GoPro camera. Reading the promotional material, it seems like the five-minute flight time is an arbitrary limit for “safety reasons.”
In the U.S. this drone cannot be used for commercial purposes without FAA dispensation. I’m not too sure if it would be allowed as a hobbyist device, but since it’s autonomous, I’m thinking it also wouldn’t at the moment.
